Summer 2025: Playlist
Big Parking Lot - Work Wife
A smaller band I selfishly want to gatekeep. I originally learned of Work Wife through a recommendation (Coeur d’Alene) from a friend with superior music taste.
favorite line: “Big parking lot in the suburbs / Dance around outside your truck 'cause I'm a fun girl / Think I've got a chance with the drummer / Give me that cloudy-eyed boy look to dodge all summer”
Summer Sweat - Hannah Cohen
Off an album titled, Earthstar Mountain, the etheral song is perfect for a hike in the summer.
favorite line: “Honey riser be free, that summer feeling breezy / Salty lips like candy, don't waste nothing on me”
Aim to Please - Shallow Alcove
A people pleaser’s anthem.
favorite line: “I wanna be a peach / I wanna start a fight / I wanna be everything to everyone all the time”
Summer Sun - Plains, Jess Williamson
This playlist would be imcomplete without Katie Crutchfield's impecable vocals.
favorite line: “So I won't see the garden / Or the figs when they are ripe / It hurts to be leaving / But I know that staying ain't right”
Quiet Talkers - Ken Yates
Somone played this song in my car early in the summer, and I kept coming back; the lyrics piss me off in the best way possible.
favorite line: “I asked you / Why you cover up your tattoos / You said only cause you have to / I can’t argue with that”
Tangerine - Rose Paradise
Bittersweet. My song of choice when indulging in the emotional toll of returning to a place you’ve outgrown.
favorite line: “When I'm back / In this place / All the rest / Just falls away / And the cliff's gonna have to come down one day / Everything will erode away”
Any Jace Cameron song.
Self explanatory. If you aren't listening between the months of April and August, you're depriving yourself of auditory perfection.
favorite songs: Hand Me Over to The Sun, Sex Wax, Catalina, Bleach Blonde, etc.
White Teeth - Ryan Beatty
A night drive home from my best friend's house. I listened to this for the first time with all windows down, and the nostalgia this song echoed followed me for the rest of the summer.
favorite line: “You're somewhere out there, leaving me little clues / Chewing licorice in your cowboy blues”
Upstate - Charlotte Cornfield
Every lyric is flawless and the storytelling is beautiful; the song encapsulates everything Summer 2025 brought me.
favorite line: “So I just bit my tongue and cued up the next song”
