European Fall: 3 Shades
As a chronic overpacker leaving for Europe for the first time, the clothes I pulled from my closet had to be cohesive, versatile, but most of all: chic. I laid out all the pieces I own across my living room, and curated a palette of: slate gray, olive green, and red-and-white polka dots.
hex codes:

olive green - # 3b4a20
red - #D22B2B
white - #FFFFFF
Slate gray is an elevated neutral, complimenting shades of black, white, yellow, green, blue, etc. The shade is less traditional than pure black or white. I chose to bring the perfect low rise slacks I inherited for free while working at a fashion magazine in Boston. I will pair them with a black heel and black blazer, or with a variety of simple, colored tops and ballet flats.
This summer, I found an irresistible pleated strapless dress. I’ll wear it with a black jacket draped over my shoulders and a sleek, black boot, letting the tiny buttons on the hips and cotton fabric outline the dress’s elegance.
And, just as I swore I wouldn’t make another purchase before I left, I came across a mini skirt with light pinstripes. The skirt tied together the collection of slate gray pieces in my suitcase, and with a pair of flats and colored socks, it will add a touch of femininity.
I am bringing a pair of olive green, barrel capris from BLANKNYC paired with the Olive Bowl Harley Tank from Lisa Says Gah. Green isn’t a color I gravitate towards, as I am often pulled in the direction of any shade of blue, but the olive undertone of the pants brings a hint of summer to my wardrobe as I transition seasons abroad. I also am bringing forest green rain boots that I am surprisingly loving; they’re functional while adding a subtle pop of color.
I stumbled upon a red polka dot dress this summer, and instantly placed it in my pile of non-negotiables. I also found a beautiful white collared button down with red polka dots while thrifting. These pieces are bold and feminine, light and airy compared to the structured, darker palettes I already packed.
My curated trio of color creates timeless looks that are versatile enough for months of travel. Slate gray reflects the Parisian energy I desire; olive green balances looks with its earthy tone; and the red-and-white polka dots provide a femininity that reminds me of vintage Yves Saint Laurent. The pieces' varying silhouettes and textures allow them to convey the mood, energy, and character I am embodying for my European travel.
